The Present Is Perfect
Present
I was taught Transcendental Meditation (TM) in the summer of 2000. And as I said in my book, I have practiced the twice daily mediation regularly for nearly 25 years. But life never stops moving and changing. And right after my book was published, I discovered Sadhguru. In my efforts to share what works for me, in hopes that it helps others, Sadhguru’s teachings of yoga and meditation are something that I would love for everyone with a desire to enjoy life to its fullest to be able to experience.
What I have learned through Sadhguru in the last few years has been invaluable to me. It’s hard to even begin to describe how much his teachings have impacted my life except to say that everything is better. This doesn’t mean I haven’t had challenging circumstances over the last few years. I have had my share of difficulties. However, I am able to navigate life better despite the challenges. Since I started listening to Sadhguru on YouTube every night before bed several years ago, to participating in his Inner Engineering program last year, to recently learning Surya Kriya (sun salutation), my meditations are better, my relationships are better, my state of being is better, and my life effortlessly flows better. I wish I could be more specific on how and why everything is better. It just is. I also wish I could articulate the immensity of Sadhguru more effectively. But words don’t really do his teachings justice anyway. It’s experiential. It’s best to just dive in and discover it for yourself. So if you’re interested in not only feeling better than you do now, but in learning to consciously see the perfection in all of the things and all of the moments, please visit the resources page for more links and free apps by Sadhguru to learn more.
“When we say "yoga", for many of you it probably means some impossible physical postures. That is not what we are referring to here. Yoga simply means to be in perfect tune. When you are in yoga, your body, mind and energy and existence are in absolute harmony.” - Sadhguru on Types of Yoga
“This is what a yogasana means – you are taking charge of your life. You are transforming your body and mind into a possibility in your life. It is becoming a passage, not a block.
“The process of transforming the body, changing the texture of the body, changing the fundamental information in the body, which makes it go in certain compulsive patterns, needs a certain determination, forcefulness, and adamancy. You are not willing to give in to the cycles of compulsiveness. You go the way you want to go.
“When you do your asanas, you explore the nature of your body and your mind. If you move your fingers in a certain way, your mind will function accordingly. Everything that you do with your body does something with your mind. You will not come to this understanding by reading a book. It will come to you only by exploration.” - Sadhguru on Yogasanas
It’s less life-altering, but also worth mentioning, that since writing my book I have significantly streamlined and detoxified my skin care routine as I’ve edited on my resources page. My body needs organic, natural foods - that hasn’t changed - but as I’ve aged, my body also needs organic, natural skin care products. (Our skin is a part of our body after all.) I have always intuitively known this. When I was pregnant, I only used skin care that I could ingest (like coconut oil) so as not to pass any chemicals along to my growing baby. But eventually my vanity won out and I went back to toxic hair and skin products that my body started to show me that it didn’t like. Now in my mid-50’s, 99% of my skin care is natural and organic. My rule is that if the product is safe to ingest, it’s safe to use on my skin. No more toxins, no more chemicals!
Thanks for checking in. As always, take whatever works for you and feels good within and ditch the rest. Wishing you all the best on your ever-evolving journey throughout this beautiful life. Whatever your path is, it’s perfect. -H

Sadhguru: In the western part of the world, if you utter the word “Yoga,” people think of impossible physical postures. This is a very distorted idea of what Yoga is.
